RICKY'S MUM

“Who’s that little f****r on my porch?” – Mrs. Baker (1991)

BIO

Today’s inspiration is Single parent Mrs. Baker AKA Ricky’s Mum. Watch what you was about her beloved son or you might get the hairdryer treatment.

Lost of memorable scenes in the iconic movie Boyz N The Hood. The first scene with Mrs. Baker accompanied by the song ” Sunshower ” by Dr. Buzzard’s Original Savannah Band is one of my favourites.

Ricky’s Mum was originally a 1988 Peugeot Monte-Carlo. The frame and forks were stripped of all factory paint, then got the usual rust treatment.

Other cool features of this build include a pair of white WTB ThickSlick tyres, Odyssey Twisted Aloha Pedals (Limited Edition) and a Special Edition Brooks Saddle and handlebar tape.

BEETHOVEN'S 9TH

BIO

Welcome to Beethoven’s 9th.

This build was inspired by Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.

This Dawes Galaxy got the usual paint-strip and rust treatment, except for the lugs. Lugs were left with its original paint intact. The remaining paint was treated with a layer of Metal Protect.

To add a bit of class I installed a Brooks saddle and leather bar tape.

This regal bastard is also rolling on some (almost go anywhere) black Continental RIDE Tour Tyres.

NICE!!

“NO! The Pub Crawler 5000!” – C.Page (2023)

BIO

Was going to use this bike for another project but decided to donate it to a good home instead.

Bike was already in good nick. Just needed a good clean and overhaul. It now runs real smooth and relatively quick.

Just a few additions to make this a tidy little pub bike:
• Fenders (Raleigh Estelle 1984)
• Pryma saddle (from my parts bin).
• Brake pad replacements.
• Reflectors (from my parts bin).
• Gumwall tyres.
• Quill stem with shorter reach (from my parts bin).

The Pub Crawler 5000 (aptly named by its new owner) will now spend its twilight years doing beer and pizza runs :O)

“What does ‘INCOMPETENT’ mean?” – TONY THE HOTDOG VENDOR (1984)

BIO

More ’80s inspiration. This time from the classic movie Highlander.

Although there are lots of cool scenes from this movie, my favourite part was where Tony the Hotdog Vendor reads to Lieutenant Frank Moran the newspaper headline. Still cracks me up to this day.

So goodbye to Ya’mama and wassup to Tony. Tony was stripped of all paint, then rusted with a darkening ingredient. Along with an overhauled pair of black Espresso Wheels, Tony was given an old leather Brooks saddle with colour matching handlebar tape, toe straps and leather for the custom valve caps.

Ya’Mamma 2.0 is now here, and she’s fixed geared up.

Everything else is pretty much the same, except for new (tidier) towel bar grips, toe straps for the pedals and a new front brake leaver with a restored vintage caliper.

“Take us to queens at once” – PRINCE AKEEM (1988)

BIO

Been on a bit of a New York vibe for inspiration over the last couple of years and this build will be the first of that collection. This bike was inspired by New York’s infamous borough Queens and the courtship ritual of Zamunda. As represented in the classic comedy Coming To America.

I stripped 54 Queens of its paint leaving some remnants of primer in the joins and random parts of the frame for a more grimy/grubby look. The forks were rusted (with a right side bare steel logo) and the aluminium frame was treated with a special solution that gave it that grubby patina.

A few new parts were added to 54 Queens: Gold chain, Gold seat post clamp, Gold handlebar end caps, Gold water bottle, Green brake calipers, Black flat pedals and bottle cage, Rusted bell, 60mm stem, Topeak iPhone ridecase and handlebar bag. Customised a few bits too: Black towel for covering the saddle, peddle straps, and bartape. Feathered zips for the handlebar bag and a custom ass saver and spoke disk too.

“Changes will always be. Gotta keep moving on” – THE RURALS (2007)

BIO

Red Chakra started off as just frame and forks.

Concept for this build was inspired by one of my favourite Rurals tracks – Red Chakra.

Rust with red accents… and lots of BASS ;O)

Mods include reupholstered saddle with painted seat rails (in red). Logos are located on the saddle (which was made from red denim + trademark wonky stitching) and the bottom part of the seat tube (exposed raw steel logo).

“I said your mama’s got an afro with a chin strap” – THE PHARCYDE (1992)

BIO

This one was a bit of an experiment to see if I could marry the old with the new. Unsure if I could pull it off, I continued the build with the song Ya Mama (by The Pharcyde) in mind, so that on lookers would know that I just don’t give a #@$% about how I look :O)

Ya’Mamma was stripped of all paint and rust with a darkening ingredient. Along with a brand new pair of white trainers Ya’Mamma was given a white chain and towels to cover the bull horn handle bars and Brooks saddle (towel nicked courtesy of popular hotel as advertised by Lenny Henry :O)

During the rusting process I exposed the raw steel in the form of an old Shapez Athletic logo (top tube) and the constellation of Canis Major (left fork and seat tube) and Virgo (right fork)

RUSTY

BIO

Whilst trawling the internet looking for inspiration to design and build SHIFTY, I came across this bike on a famous online auction site and fell in love. With its shabby chic, ratty good looks, I had to have it.

Great for commutes to the pub and always a talking point of interest amongst peers (and strangers). After having such a good time riding around on RUSTY I decided to build my own rusty bike (Ya’Mamma)
