OLD ASS BIKES

All project builds are made from second hand bikes, some over 54 years old So mechanically the bikes will not operate and ride like new. Please note that these projects are not created for high speed, think about the famous lyrics of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince… “Two Miles An Hour So Everybody Sees You” ;O)

NOTE: Some basic knowledge of bicycle maintenance would be advantageous upon adoption/purchase :O)

THE RUST

All rusted/patinaed bike frames and bike parts are stripped of all paint and existing rust. A rapid flash rusting process is then applied to the top metal layer. Once the desired patina is achieved, the sealant process is then applied to the thin layer of rust/patina.

The surface rust on some bikes are not sealed, so probably advisable not to wear your Sunday best when going out for a ride. Ride on dry sunny days for maximum attention seeking ;O)

NOTE: For rusted bikes that are not sealed, can be sealed on request. Bearing in mind that this will some what darken the colour of rust/patina. All bikes once complete are kept in-doors and in the dry.

GREASE

When servicing the bikes, try not to go HAM on the grease as it may darken the colour of the rust. This is mostly unavoidable on (unsealed) rusty parts of the frame that harbor moving parts e.g. bottom bracket, dropouts, headset etc. Also for this reason avoid handling the rusty parts of the bike with greasy hands.

CERTIFICATE

Each complete bike comes with a birth certificate
